It’s about time! The conversion of the old police station at 512 Humboldt Street just off the BQE in Greenpoint was announced back in 2006, but then nothing much happened until a few months ago. Now you can see the new windows in place and this weekend there was work going on on the sidewalk….

Now you can see the new windows in place and this weekend there was work going on on the sidewalk. As far as we can tell, the plan is still for 14 units of affordable housing.

this project is not affordable rentals, etc. the units are for sale. no minimum income, but maximum levels. it cost $50 for an individual to apply for the lottery and $100 for a couple and you had to bring your own financing to the table. the application process is way over but here is the info anyways http://www.nyc.gov/html/hpd/downloads/pdf/Herbert-Street-Cond.pdf
as much as i don’t love brownstones, i’m a sucker for big ol red brick buildings. admire this place every time i’m driving up meeker to go to the BQE. it’s a fine location because graham is adding restaurants and amenities daily. school situation is fine and walking distance to both mcgolrick and mccarren parks. subway access is good and parking around there is probably ok. also, there’s still tons of italian hold over biz’s – butcher, fish shop, barber, bakery and a ravioli place. banking on metropolitan and the new 3rd ward building on metropolitan which has been reaching out to the community with stuff for everyone including kids.
I wonder if people will still be able to see you walking out of the shower while they drive by on the BQE?
It is a lovely building on a terrible corner. On one side, Meeker Ave. and the BQE, on the other a stalled condo building that even when finished isn’t going to be very attractive.
So what ridiculous affordable housing formula are they going to use? The $40,000 family gross income cap and housing expenses of $20,000? Sanctioned poverty. I love it.
Very convenient if you drive to work.
Beautiful building- so glad they saved it. And yes- I’d love to see more of these old buildings salvaged and repurposed.
