purple-yam-0209.jpgAs first noted on the Ditmas Park Blog, the folks behind Soho’s pan-Asian Cendrillon have a new spot in the works for Victorian Flatbush. Located in a former 99-cent store at 1314 Cortelyou Road, Purple Yam will “re-create a kitchen-centered home harking back to the Asian values of hospitality and generosity,” according to the owners. An April opening is targeted. GMAP

  1. I know the owners of Purple Yam and so this is certainly a biased opinion. However, I can vouch for their wonderful food. It is a shame they had to be forced out of their Soho spot where they were for many years. But I am pleased they will bring Filipino food to Brooklyn, a cuisine that hasn’t yet crossed over to the mainstream American population but is truly some of the best food in the world. The last thing I will say is that Filipinos are all about community especially when it comes to food. Amy and Romy of Purple Yam certainly bring that spirit to their endeavors. I totally recommend checking them out!

  2. Aw, shucks, one less crappy 99-cent store!

Good luck and welcome, Poiple Yam…hope you are moderately priced, or we will have to send you our best wishes but not our patronage.

  3. > im not a huge fan of these manhattan businesses opening up places in brooklyn.”

Would you feel better about this if you knew that A) the owners live quite near to their new restaurant and B) they are closing their Soho location prior to opening Purple Yam?

  4. im not a huge fan of these manhattan businesses opening up places in brooklyn. But I guess who the hell has money to open anything so theres no point being a bummer about it.
