mommy-baby-one-way-1008.jpg At last night’s CB2 meeting, plans to turn a block of St. James Place and all of Lefferts Place into one-way thoroughfares were quashed. Even the block association that originally requested the change didn’t end up supporting it, reports the Brooklyn Paper. So why would anyone want those dangerous one-ways? “One alleged benefit of sending traffic south on two blocks of St. James Place and only east on Lefferts Place would make it easier for cars to double-park during street cleaning, which is more strictly prohibited on narrow two-way streets.”

  1. this reminds me, i thought street cleaning was going to be cut down to one day per week in fort greene. i wonder what’s happening with that….

  2. I live on this block, the two-way stretch of St James. It’s a little dangerous as is, with cars tending to speed and barely enough room for cars to pass each other.

If they won’t consider making it one way, they ought to consider speed bumps (like the rest of St James) (and like Lefferts Place)…
