Fridays at 11, the Upstater website brings you a selection of homes within three hours north, and a little bit east or west, of New York City.

In the wake of the latest hurricane, the call came in for commutable homes. Readers wrote in to request that we profile places where one could easily get to the city, should one want to, but could also relax in relative countryside. Some of you will argue with what’s commutable — does a one-hour-and-forty-five-minute train ride count? Well, it all depends on how often you need to travel (every day? twice a week?), how much work you can get done on the train, and what your budget is.

2 Randall Heights, Middletown, N.Y.

We pulled out this mid-century modern in Middletown, which has a few decorative details left over from decades past, but which we think could be super cool if you make a few cosmetic changes. Remove the carpet and touch up the kitchen, to start.

The MCM has five bedrooms, three baths, 4,284 square feet, a finished basement, both a living and a family room, and an in-ground pool.

2 Randall Heights, Middletown. $250,000. GMAP.

219 Clove Road, Salisbury Mills, N.Y.

This renovated house from 1860 comes with lots of goodies, including a couple of choice outbuildings and — get this — 13.5 acres. And yet you can still take the commuter train from Salisbury Mills.

It has three bedrooms, three baths, a patio and lots of new mechanicals.

219 Clove Road, Salisbury Mills. $399,500. GMAP.
