One of the many things we love about Delaware County, located in the Catskill Mountains southwest of Albany, is that you can find some spectacular properties at modest prices. Sure, some need work, but if you’re willing to put in the time and elbow grease it takes to put a polish on these lovely properties, the benefits are numerous. This week, we’re looking at four excellent deals in Fleischmanns, Delhi, Hamden, and Stamford, some of our favorite Catskill Mountain towns. Delaware County is situated approximately 3.5 hours from Brooklyn, and it feels a world away.

This grand Victorian, located in the quaint village of Fleischmanns, just needs a few splashes of paint and a few cosmetic tweaks to look new and fancy all over again. Added bonus: It’s right in the village, walking distance to the library, the public swimming pool, and the Trailways bus station on Main Street. Beds: 3. Baths: 2. Square Feet: 2,344. Lot Size: .58 acres. Taxes: $5,413.

We like the use of the quanset hut as an addition to this 1,400 square foot home on 12-plus acres. It adds a uniqueness to the property. Another unique feature? It actually contains its own catwalk inside, lined with windows so you can survey your land. Great high ceilings, too. Beds: 3. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 1,400. Lot Size: 12.12 acres. Taxes: $2,343.

This Victorian in the village of Delhi is the most expensive property on our list today, but we still think it qualifies as decently priced. We would definitely consider getting rid of the green carpeting, but we love the big bay windows in the living room and the wood work. Includes a big old barn, too. Beds: 5. Baths: 1.5. Square Feet: 2,500. Lot Size: 1.3 acres. Taxes: $4,933.

The William Beckley House, located in the village of Stamford, is a great example of Gothic architecture and all the dormers, gables, and ornate detailing associated with it. While it certainly needs a polish, we hope whoever decides to buy this circa-1868 beauty doesn’t change too much about it. Beds: 4. Baths: 3.5. Square Feet: 2,073. Lot Size: .8 acres. Taxes: $3,942.
