Architecture lovers hoping to boost their knowledge base and share their love of community and the built environment can find a weekend full of walking tours, workshops, and more at Archtober Newburgh.

The month-long Archtober celebration, organized by the Center for Architecture, has a busy calendar within the five boroughs, but for the third year a full slate of events is being offered to celebrate and raise awareness of Newburgh’s heritage. Organizations within the architecturally rich Orange County city are hosting more than 25 events from October 4 to 5.

There is a bumper crop of talks and workshops for old-house lovers and owners covering historic hardware, doors, windows, and more. Experts will also be on hand for talks about historic tax credits, grant programs, and other resources for owners of historic properties. There are also plenty of activities for younger architectural aficionados, including cardboard city making, a student-led walking tour, and a printmaking workshop.

The future of the monumental, and decaying, Dutch Reformed Church by Alexander Jackson Davis will be the focus of a conversation on Sunday, October 5. The same day budding historians can get some tips on researching the architecture of the city with the Historical Society of Newburgh.

The full calendar of free events is available online at the website of The Fullerton a local nonprofit organizing the function along with AIA Westchester + Hudson Valley. AIA credits are being offered for some programs. Check the online calendar, as dates, meeting locations, and RSVP requirements vary.
