The Urban Night Sky: Bats and Stars at Fort Greene Park
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to meander through Fort Greene Park at night? Have you ever looked up at the sky and wondered which constellations you were seeing? Have you ever imagined the wildlife that comes out at twilight? Join The Conservancy and Paul Kiem for this interesting and sometimes spooky experience! You will enjoy the gorgeous evening and frolic through the wondrous swarms of fireflies. You will listen for, call for and see bats throughout the park. As twilight dims to evening you will learn about Cassiopeia Queen of Ethiopia, Orion The Hunter and the Big Dipper (aka Ursa Major).
Wednesday, June 8th, 7:45 p.m.; meet at the big rock by the tennis courts, Fort Greene Park.

Down the Rabbit Hole: Found Objects and Forgotten Stories
Join Brooklyn Brainery and Brooklyn Historical Society for this special presentation on found objects and forgotten stories. Historian, archivist, and raconteur Benjamin Feldman shares the stories of found objects and long-forgotten New York scandals from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This talk will take you on a journey that began with a simple garage sale find from Chelsea, whereby a little change purse with gilt lettering, a piece of swag, unfolded into a tale of the struggle of a Ben Katchor-esque Lower East Side saloon operator trying to survive after Prohibition shut him down (almost….).
Thursday, June 9th, 7 p.m. Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street. $8 BHS members/$10 non-members. Your ticket includes one free water or Brooklyn Brewery beer. Advance purchase recommend as seating is limited.
