House of the Day: 120 Stratford Road

This Victorian house at 120 Stratford Road in Prospect Park South hit the market last month (when it was an Open House Pick) with a price tag of $1,185,000. It just popped up in the Brownstoner Marketplace now that Warren Lewis has signed on (Yay!) and is also being repped by Brooklyn Properties. While the renovated kitchen isn’t doing much for us, most of the house is still in original, and excellent, shape. In particular, we’re loving the coffered ceiling and parquet floor in the dining room. The asking price is $1,185,000. Sound about right for the eight-bedroom house?

Yes, I am sad about the bricked-in porch, too.
Ugg … What is up with that vinyl tile in the foyer? Original wood floor is either gone or ruined. Place would be worth more if it hadn’t suffered that horrible 1970s reno.
Haven’t even looked at the interior pix, and I can tell you already that I’m not grooving on the bricked in porch or the locations.
Is that vinyl or linoleum on the floor in the entry hall? Yuck!
Looks pretty fugly to me. Definitely not digging the plastic coffered ceiling.
Looks Edwardian to me. Snipe, snipe.

Seriously…you deserve to be bitch slapped, Brownstoner.
Ditmaspark is absolutely right. I looked at this house too–the dining room is fantastic but that’s about it. It needs tons of work, and is right smack up against one of the ugliest houses in Prospect Park South (cleverly hidden by trees in the street-view photograph). One of the “bedrooms” is currently a kitchen with a major gas leak, the back yard is entirely concrete, the kitchen is…well, you can see the kitchen. The rest of the house has a lot of flocked wallpaper, peeling lino, shag wall-to-wall, and weird smells. Considering that 88 Stratford, which is a much nicer house, went for $1.075, I would think anyone who pays over a million for this place is crazy.
another example where the photos don’t quite show you the real details. saw this place several weeks ago when it was listed with brooklyn properties (still is, i believe). it needs A LOT of work. that block has gorgeous houses…unfortunately, this isn’t one of them.
good luck gettin over 1M on this one. i’m guessing under 900k
