As a parent who lives very close to the Radiac site, I am once again disappointed that this is allowed to remain in our neighborhood. I’ve never been inside Radiac, but it doesn’t look very well maintained as a site from the outside. It doesn’t look clean, modern or secure. I wonder why the rich Domino developers didn’t get on the bandwagon to get rid of it. I am extremely disappointed in Patterson.
I’m sure the company has serious precautions in place but there is always a first time. 9-11 taught us the hard way and now it’s a matter of trying to find our balance between hysteria and security. I wonder if we ever will.
The concern is terrorism. How legit it is, I don’t know. But as they say, sh*t happens. Just doesn’t seem like a great place to have radioactive and hazardous waste storage.
if you read through, it says that they never had an incident in 20+ years. i don’t find this place so scary although I can understand that it’s not ideal.
maybe they should move the school…
and if hospitals have this same “waste”, maybe they shouldn’t build schools next to hospitals either (or power lines or cell phone towers or plastic cups…). People will always find things to scare them.
No- Radiac has long been known as a problem. In fact, Engine 212- which they shut down, was the only firehouse in the immediate area that had a chemical unit capable of fighting toxic waste fires. Radiac also deals with other kinds of hazardous waste (chemical, not sure if they also do biological). One of the reasons we fought so hard (unsuccessfully) to keep 212 open.

oh boy.. that “concern” can be used quiet a bit I guess… it doesn’t look a “soft” target, though.

Damn, I thought Radiac was a club with an ironic name.
