Ever wonder what penguins do after dark?

You can find out while enjoying a cold beer during NYA@Night Boardwalk Brews, an after-hours party at the New York Aquarium on Friday, July 29, at West 8th and Surf Avenue in Coney Island.

From 7:30-11 p.m., come get a snorkeler’s-eye view of the green moray eel and cownose ray in the Glover’s Reef, or check the clownfish (like Nemo) in the Conservation Hall building — all while sipping Oyster Bay, Coney Island, Ballast Point and other premium brews.

A DJ will be spinning music to fill the dance floor, which will help partygoers work off the treats from Wafels & Dinges, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs & Restaurant and (sustainably sourced) Luke’s Lobster.

The aquarium will be open until 11 p.m., with guests granted open access to see penguins, otters, and sea lions. Stop by and check out the shark exhibit, which features 10-foot fearsome-looking (but non-aggressive) sand tiger sharks.

Please note, the animals will be in their exhibits, but it is up to them if they choose to be in an area that is visible to the public. In other words, you can invite a penguin to the party, but you can’t make him line dance.

VIP tickets include early entry (7:30 p.m.) and an interactive sea lion show in the Aquatheater, showcasing the bonds the animals have forged with their trainers.

All this and a 9:30 p.m. fireworks show from Coney Island!

Find more information about Boardwalk Brews here. The first NYA@Night event two years ago was so popular they had to close the doors early, and a more recent event at Central Park Zoo sold out, so get your tickets now!

General admission is $54.99 (VIP tickets are $74.99) and both can be purchased here. Brownstoner readers have an exclusive $10 discount off any ticket (good for up to four tickets) when purchased online. Use the promo code “BKLovesNYA” to redeem.
