About

Paula Rubenstein is a veritable treasure trove of antiques, interesting objects and unique items. The eponymous owner, Paula Rubenstein, revels in the process of searching for pieces to add to the collection in the shop, and the result is a diverse selection which includes, among the furniture, old photographs and artwork, an impressive assortment of textiles, Navajo rugs and books. In fact, her textile collection is so remarkable that it is regarded as a sort of “textile archive” that is often used as inspiration by designers. The airy antique shop focuses mostly on American styles and pieces from the mid-19th to mid-20th century. Paula is interested in photography, art, sculpture and books, and is consequently drawn to form, color and line. She conceives of objects as art or sculptural pieces rather than simple dining room tables or chairs. This focus leads her to select items that are not simply functional; rather, the shop carries antiques that appeal to the visual creatives that make up her clientele: painters, photographers, interior designers and anyone with an eye or appreciation for artwork.
