About
Our approach to architecture and interior design is at once rigorously academic and endlessly playful. We take seriously our role as stewards of the built environment — always mindful of the historical, cultural, and environmental context in which we work.
We also embrace the opportunity to modernize and to personalize, meeting each of our clients’ unique programmatic goals. We delight in playing with traditional forms, from the bonding of brick and the arrangement of windows to the appointment of fixtures and furnishings.
The result is a body of work that reflects the very nature of architecture and design: a conversation across time, transcending generations, cultures, and sensibilities.
At the center of our approach to architecture and design sits the modest nineteenth-century rowhouse. The rowhouse is a fundamental building block of the city, the essence of New York’s architectural vernacular. An endlessly adaptable structure, the rowhouse provides a blueprint for community-based living, and it offers a unique model for sustainability and longevity.
Over the last twenty-five years, The Brooklyn Studio has rehabilitated more than 125 rowhouses. Our extensive expertise with nineteenth and early twentieth-century masonry structures has come to define our practice, and we have built a reputation as one of New York City’s leading rowhouse architecture firms.
