Blending modern with traditional, Studio Nato offers a warm modernism rooted in a utilitarian approach—all while honoring the past.
Born in Anchorage, Alaska as the son of a General Contractor, Nathan found a love for building and transforming spaces at a young age. After earning his business degree, he began working as a field operations manager for a masonry company in Vail, CO, and went on to form his own construction business in Atlanta, GA. After returning to school for Interior Design at Parsons, Nathan went on to work for design agencies Warren Red and Dutch East Design and worked on projects both across the country and internationally. He has been an instructor and a critic at Parsons since graduating.
Nathan's design approach begins with a thorough study of the site to see how it will inform conceptual design through circulation, materiality, and form. With the client in mind, special attention is given to the psychology of space to ensure efficiency and functionality. His extensive knowledge of construction along with managing trades allows him to design consciously and efficiently.
"It's such a rarity to find someone in the field with Nathan's cross disciplinary background in construction, furniture & interior design, and architecture. Not only does this prove his strengths in knowledge and innovation, but it also makes him entirely accessible and pleasurable to work with. Having had the fortune to work with Nathan, I can easily attest to his invaluable insight into collaboration, design, and construction."– Client
"Nathan helped us with layout options, lighting design, and overall styling ideas for our bathroom/walk-in closet remodel. He was very professional and knowledgeable, and gave us excellent advice. Using his expertise really made us feel confident in the decisions we were making, knowing that the outcome would be something that we would love. He's got a great eye, and knows what works and what doesn't. We will definitely call Nathan Cuttle Design again for our next project."– Client
"Nathan was a dream to work with. He did an excellent job of taking our "vision" and turning it into a concrete design. He kept to our budget. He did an excellent job of researching products and materials, providing us with edited options to choose from. He is a great communicator and was always prompt for meetings. He made us feel as though this project was unique and special to us - nothing cookie cutter about it. We could not have asked for a better experience! The job was to renovate our kitchen and living area. It was such a success that we have hired him to design our master bath."– Client
"Nathan is a wildly talented designer and has a way of gently steering a project to a level beyond what you originally consider possible. Nathan designs for the pragmatic and efficient use of the space and manages to weave this into an overall aesthetic that is lovely and reflects the personality of his client. Nathan designed a kitchen and bath for us and I am grateful for his energy and creative contribution to our house every time I come home! He helped us save a 1920's cottage is utter disrepair, honored its old bones, and graced it with a more youthful and modern energy."– Client
