Design Tech Construction was founded in 1989 and is owned by John Palanca.
Palanca, a fixture in the Brooklyn brownstone renovation field, earned his reputation as a Master Carpenter who worked a wide range of building types; John’s resume covers everything.
Starting out, Design Tech focused on mid to high end renovations in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn. It primarily rehabbed brownstones, distressed residential and commercial structures. Developing from the ground up was soon to follow. John’s geographical area of work expanded into Manhattan. His track record is strong and his formula for success relies on it.

Design Tech prides itself on its ability to rely on referrals. Rather than only relying on advertising, our network of solid relationships and pleased customers is the force that has enabled us to grow. We understand the importance of a satisfied client, which is one of the reasons we have been in business for so long. Design Techs many architects, engineers and must importantly its clients soon enabled our reputation for getting the job done, spread.

Unfortunately, the construction industry is overflowing with contractors who instill your trust, only to let you down at the end. Promises that can’t be delivered, deception, and poor workmanship are prevalent throughout the industry. Our unique ability to keep our clients happy and satisfied with our end results is the way we operate, no exceptions.
Skills
In house- With a staff of over 20 employees, Design Tech’s carpenters, laborers, masons, tile setters, and painters get the job done. Other companies tend to sub out a majority of that work, losing the control necessary to get the best results. At Design Tech Construction Corp, we do it ourselves which keeps us on schedule…never waiting for sub-contractors that may be too busy doing other things.
Subcontractors- Being in business for these many years gives us a strong advantage over our competitors. We have been working with the same team of subcontractors for the past two decades. Our electrical, plumbing and HVAC subs were not found overnight. It was a long process identifying the best and most responsive subcontractors to work with. Therefore, they as well as us value the importance of a great reputation.

First was to build an elevated deck off the back of my home, they built wooden shelves that function as stairs to the roof that were beyond beautiful, they remodeled my master bathroom and are currently renovating my bottom floor. Why do I like them: Let me say they will likely NOT be the cheapest option. However, what you are paying for are people, including John's team, who know what they are doing. John himself is able to do construction mental judo is his head with his level of experience, looking at a given situation and being able to come up with multiple solutions. He is practical and professional. He is also a solid communicator. I am never caught off-guard by anything. He listens, and will also disagree with you (politely) if he believes you are making the wrong choice, though will say his piece and let you decide. He is licensed, bonded, all the things you want in a legitimate construction org. I have found that as far as construction goes, you get what you pay for. Design Tech may be on the higher end of normal, but they are METICULOUS with their work. Highly recommend, and you can see from some of my other reviews that I can be a pain in the ass, so 5 stars from me says a lot. John has a lot of clients and it can be challenging to get on his calendar initially, but once you are in it is smooth sailing.
