It all started in the year 1914 when Louis Goldberg, a relentless visionary, opened up shop on the lower east side of Manhattan. His goal was to manufacture and sell quality metal products to new construction and renovation projects throughout the five boroughs. Luis manufactured and sold metal products by day, while grooming a team of metal professionals by night at home amongst his family. Luis was proud to bring in his son-in law Sam Fishkind to the business to keep the meaning of family and business alive. Sam kept the same keen focus on quality products and customer service. The result was Sam’s son Joel Fishkind joining the company in the late 1960’s to carry the pride of a multi-generational family business for a third generation. Over Joel’s nearly 50 year tenure, he had a vision of growth and leadership through the best and worst economic times but endured the high and low seas with open sails and stability. Joel’s dedication to his customers and employees made him dually successfully always.

Today, over 102 years later, Luis Goldberg’s core principles of customer satisfaction through quality products and service still run through the DNA at Standard Tinsmith & Roofer Supply Corp. today; his legacies and values left behind exudes through the new owner: Scott Fishkind, a 4th generation descendant of Louis Goldberg (Louis’s great grandson). As a child, Scott could be found on school breaks, winter and summer, around the warehouse and shop getting his hands dirty on anything he could to learn the metal trade. Whether it was hopping on a forklift, going out on a truck for delivery or working around the shop, Scott was hands on since his early teen years. It was after graduating Hofstra University that Scott joined Standard full time to put all he had learned from years of working part time to growing the company in a full time capacity. It was at this moment that Scott realized, there was more to this than just a business, there was 3 prior generations of success, leadership and dignity he must uphold with the same great honor they did.
