The Bear Café was created in 1971 by Albert Grossman, music industry visionary and personal manger to artists including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band and Peter, Paul & Mary, Todd Rundgren and others. In May of 1988, Peter Cantine and Chef Eric Mann, formerly a busboy and a dishwasher at The Bear Café of old, reopened The Bear Café. Eric Mann remains the Chef de Cuisine at the Bear cafe. His classic American cuisine continues to be a culinary highlight of the Catskills and Hudson Valley. He is also the executive chef of the Commune Saloon and for catering on the property.
