A compact two-bedroom in an early 20th century row house in Windsor Terrace has a wealth of original details in the living area, a renovated kitchen and access to a shared garden. It’s on the garden level of 12 Sherman Street, a pale stone townhouse with a bowed front and neo-Classical details including swags, columns and a triangular pediment above the front entrance.
Located about three blocks from Prospect Park, the house is technically a three-family, though only this unit appears to have ever been listed for rent, so perhaps owners occupy the other two floors. Bow-fronted brick and stone townhouses and trees line the street.
The front room, originally the house’s dining room and now a combined living-dining room for the rental, has most of its original features intact. These include parquet floors with inlaid borders and a wood mantel with columns, mirror and original tile. There are also two-built-ins, one of which has been converted to a pass-through to the kitchen.
The latter has been updated with stone counters, plenty of pale blue cabinets, white subway tile and a dishwasher. A bathroom has black and white tile and a combo tub-shower.
The two bedrooms are medium size and both have closets, for a total of three in the unit. The larger of the bedrooms has a door leading out a shared garden with patio, faux grass and landscaped planting beds.
Pets are not allowed, according to the listing, which is mum on the topic of laundry, so presumably tenants will have to go elsewhere for that. Listed by Jesse Temple of Brown Harris Stevens, the floor-through is asking $3,800 a month. Worth it?
