A penthouse unit in Williamsburg’s One Domino Square recently sold for $7 million, pushing up the price per square foot for condos in the pricier parts of Brooklyn. However, the current residential record holder still remains the $32 million dollar sale of a home in Gravesend last year.

This Williamsburg unit, 8 South 4th Street Penthouse 3A, in a waterfront skyscraper designed by noted architect Annabelle Seldorf, sold in late February to an LLC for $3,313 per square foot, a record for Brooklyn per square foot sales, according to developer Two Trees. The apartment has sweeping views of the East River and three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms in roughly 2,000 square feet of space. Those views and the unit’s substantial private terrace, reached via a sculptural spiral staircase, likely had something to do with that sales price without adding to the square footage.

One Domino Square is part of the 11-acre mega-project on the former Domino Sugar Refinery site. The 1880s factory closed in 2004 and was landmarked in 2007. It remains a centerpiece of the changing area, whose 2005 rezoning has brought glassy towers and luxury development to the once industrial waterfront.

The refinery building itself was turned into the casing for a 460,000-square-foot glass building with a barrel vault top that holds office, retail, and events space. Part of popular Domino Park, the Domino Square plaza opened in 2024, and construction of the last tower in the complex, on Domino Site B, started last year.

The Selldorf-designed building consists of two towers, one condo and one rental, faced with iridescent porcelain tile. The list of amenities in the building includes indoor and outdoor pools, multiple outdoor spaces, a fitness center, game room, media room, and work from home spaces. According to a press release from developer Two Trees, the rental tower is fully leased and the condo tower is 67 percent sold.

This apartment isn’t the priciest sold in the building; another penthouse unit sold for $7.75 million last summer.
