So now that the City Council has voted to extend term limits, what does that mean for Brownstone Brooklyn? Assuming Marty decides to re-up for Borough President, Councilman Bill de Blasio will have to seriously rethink whether he wants to go up against the man who’s come to personify Brooklyn or ride out another term representing Brooklyn’s 39th District. And, over in the 33rd District, will Councilman David Yassky pull the plug on his bid for Comptroller? (Council member Letitia James is technically still in her first term and was always going to run again for her seat.) On the Atlantic Yards Report, Norman Oder thinks both will “seek a relatively safe (because of the power of incumbency) third term rather than pursue a more competitive citywide office.” What do you think?

  1. Altervoce: You are not alone. This is the time for smart, honest people to throw their names in the political ring. While Obama got tons of money, his campaign has shown that there are millions of people who are willing and anxious to WORK for change. I think there are a lot here in NYC. We do not need more elections bought and paid for by developers.

I so agree. I will be voting for the challengers to the incumbents as well. Clearly, the city council did not see beyond their own self interest. If the mayor does not believe that the rules should not be different for the wealthy, then it is up to the comment citizens of New York to remind him.

  3. Attention candidates: I will be voting for challengers that opposed making this change in the City Council in races against incumbents that supported the legislation. Although I think Bloomberg has been an excellent mayor and I don’t have much respect for Weiner, I am fully prepared to vote for people that I would never have voted for before.

  4. I think anyone that voted to extend should be labeled an enemy of democracy. Unbelievable that these folks can consider themselves liberal, progressive or ‘good government’ people.
Shame on Bloomberg, Quinn, Yassky. No matter what they run for I will never vote for them again.
