Price of land in Brooklyn got you down? Can’t afford one of those fancy lofts in Dumbo? Perhaps you should be considering a different kind of waterfront living:
This incredibly gorgeous, spacious and sunny 48′ custom luxury house barge has three floors, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a huge open living room with big bay windows and a fireplace. It has a sauna, a Jacuzzi lots of wood, and a front porch, a balcony and 500 sq. ft. roof deck.
Mill Basin ain’t exactly Brooklyn Heights but then again you ain’t gonna find 4,500 square feet for $210,000 on Willow Street, now are you.

a guy i knew who helped start the band GWAR was boat sitting, he lived on a boat rent free in exchange for watching it for the owners, one day he came back “home” to the boat and it was gone– it sank! he apparently had a massive comic book collection which was destroyed.
Gotcha, 3:32. I made sure to post Bill’s info after he finished the work in my own house! ; )
I looked at this boat 15 years ago. They wanted over 100,000 then. I bought an attached brick instead for 160,000. Sold it last year for 500,000.
anon 11:14 — yes, winter can be a bear depending on the vessel. and financing can be tricky but is not impossible. a mortgage, however, it ain’t.
anon 11:19 — most docks have an electric hook-up at your berth. many marinas have a ‘pump-out’ for sewage, assuming that this house boat is movable, which many at the 79th Street Boat Basin were not for a long time. some marinas have the equivalent of the ‘honey wagen’ that comes to you. there was a time, now past, when many people just flushed right into the water.
anon 1:28 — who compared this to “BH?” seems like most of the comments were comparisons to a traditional house.
Yente, I am the worried, middle aged and exhausted poster. I like your spirit and by the way, thank you for your recommendation way back for Bill, the wood and stair man. He did my central staircase, made me spindles, is making another one for me and some other stuff. He is great. Thank you.
About the houseboat, I still pass on that one.
I knew a guy who lived on a boat in the harbor in Jersey across from Manhattan. Young single guy, and it was a big turn-on for the ladies because it was exotic. Like Crockett in Miami Vice. But yeah, if someone is going to try it, get something in better shape than this one.
FYI 100% of the folks living in mill basin prefer it over brooklyn heights. BH is not the center of the world as folks here seem to think
you people worry too much! i’d do it in a second, but i need another home like i need a hole in my head. can this be moved..like a boat?
