Corcoran made its first foray into the subsidized housing world this past weekend with the launch of The Maynard. Named after the Joan Maynard, the founder of the nearby Weeksville Heritage Center, the new co-op at 1509 Bergen Street held its first open house on Sunday, which was attended by Marty Markowitz and other local pols. There are 47 units available; the cheapest of the ones that have been posted on Corcoran.com so far is a 648-square-foot one-bedroom for $164,500 (which is, coincidentally, the price we paid for a 900-square-foot prewar one-bedroom on the Upper East Side in 1996…but we digress). Parking spaces can be had for an extra $10,000. The kicker is that you can finance the purchase through SONYMA with just 5 percent down. GMAP
wouldn’t central air conditioning be really environmentally unfriendly? there must be a greener approach to climate control.
I’m sorry but if those shitboxes they’re building in the Poconos can have central air, than so can these. It’s not condescending to say working people deserve better and shouldn’t settle.
That said, I don’t believe in subsidized housing for the few that’s paid for by the many. If the gov’t lowered taxes and cut spending, many more working people than those that currently get subsidized housing would be able to afford to buy.
Nice. People who can’t afford a car have to pay taxes to subsidize those who can.
I hate combined living room-kitchens too but believe me it’s very American and much in demand everywhere at every price. People are constantly knocking down walls “to open up the space.” I see there’s a hallway with tons of room for bookshelves. Now that is great.
The layouts suck.
I just so hate the Living Room Kitchen all combined into one room.
Doesn’t anybody want to have a “real” seperate eat in kitchen that you can put a decent size table with 4 chairs…geez !!!

Um, those ducts are hideous though.
The outside of this building is absolutely gorgeous, a breath of fresh air, would make me happy to walk by it every day.
Benson, here is an example of wonderful modern architecture that is high quality (I mean the outside appearance — I would have no knowledge of the inside construction). It adds rather than detracts from its surroundings, unlike the Fedders buildings.
Do you disagree?
Not subtle in appearance, but then again much better looking than plenty of market-rate new construction around the borough. I like that it’s a little bit of Northern Europe in Crown Heights.
