We didn’t expect to see any bargains when we looked for Brooklyn Heights apartments on Craigslist. Turns out, however, that while one-bedrooms in the Heights aren’t cheap, but they do vary quite a bit, rent-wise. Here’s what we saw:
1. 12-ft ceilings, orig. moldings, co-op bldg, $2275, Clinton at Pierrepont
2. Renovated, w/d in basement, h/w flrs, $2050, Joralemon at Henry
3. Utilities inclu., d/w, private patio, $2900, Hicks & Remsen
4. New kitchen, bldg has gym, laundry, $2800, Columbia at Pierrepont
5. High clgs, reno’d kitchen, h/w flrs, $2550, Pineapple at Hicks

  1. There’s a significant difference to have your own 1 bedroom than it is to share an apartment with 2 other people.

It’s fine for a while, but do you want to have roommates for the rest of your life??

Gosh. I love living alone. Best thing in the world after 30 years of roommates and family.

  2. I dont think I could ever afford to leave my 3 br/2ba apt in BK Heights to find a place on my own, I can’t believe 1 br’s go for almost $3k when that exactly what I split with 2 roomates.

  3. Really, cggirl? Then why do the stats for NYC renters say NYC renters spend 30-40% of their income on rent? It might be standard in some white-glove coops to say the tenant’s income must be 40 times the rent, but the point people are making is this apartment is hardly top-of-the-line.

  4. If that has been the case, 1:13 then they are charging too much rent! Obviously. Because it means with their skanky interior they don’t attract the people who make enough money to pay that level of rent comfortably.
