The house was built in 1892, according to the listing, and supposedly the apartment is 1,050 square feet. But for this price, we would hope for two bedrooms. What are your thoughts on it for $2,475 a month?

I have lived in the neighborhood for 5 years and it is a great neighborhood. I absolutely love it. I have a wonderful two bedroom apartment on the same block and I pay significantly less. Of course, I did move here five years ago, but I do know two people looking to move to Bedsty and I went with them to check out apartments and they saw amazing two bedrooms that were less than $2400. One of my friends saw a two bedroom, with a patio, and fireplace on the same block for that much money. While it is a great neighborhood — $2,475 is wrong for a one bedroom apartment. There is no backyard access. Where’s the dishwasher? There is no justification for this price.
As someone who has lived right here in the neighborhood for years…I know many people in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, for THIS particularly building………….this does not surprise me. #greed #tenantnightmare
Thanks for all the love. Yes real estate agents are allowed to comment on prices. Most real estate sites, RE TV shows, newspapers etc do this everyday.
The house across the street just sold for 1.923. Rental in this area have been going up like crazy you getting 1220 sq feet for $2475. Most 900 sq apt are 1800 to 2000 so this place is not all that bad in price…
Mr Amzi Hill should not comment when it comes to rental prices and affordability. Conflict of interest .”As a freshman agent at Evans & Nye, a boutique firm that recently added an office in Bed-Stuy, Mr. Munsey, 37, is selling century-old town houses, many in disrepair, to intrepid newcomers; anxious about the outcome of their renovations, he also offers his services to preservation-minded buyers as a project manager”. NY times
I remember way back in 2011-2012 when I moved out of bed stuy, a 1br Parlor floor in Bed stuy costing $1200. Now fast fwd 2yrs later and the price is doubled.WOW. What would you need to make to rent an apartment like that? Another question is does the Stuy offer all the cultural activities, safety and amenities(parks) that would possibly justify that price. I can’t fathom these price points for renters. At the end of the day, it is still a 1br apt with original detail. Like poster (Inquisigal2) said, what value do u get RENTING an original detail apt, bragging rights and acouple cocktail/dinner parties!!!!
It’s ironic that if one were on the market for a house to buy, all of the original detail in this apartment would make most would-be owners drool. But as a rental, I actually think it’s a liability. All of those ornate mirrors and oversize built in cabinets (not to mention that row of radiators along the wall of the plainest room) take up so much wall space! If you’re looking to fit all of your furniture and personal items in a floor-though, you’re going to have to arrange everything in the middle of every room, which is probably not to most people’s liking. Where does one put their bed? A sofa?
Also, if you’re going to charge $2475 a month for a one bedroom in Bed-Stuy, for god sake, put a dishwasher in the kitchen, and arrange for some sort of laundry access in the basement. Personally, I think this is too much of a jump in price from other over-priced 1 bedrooms. I thought $1800 a month listings were outrageous, but this takes the cake.
so much butthurt
BK72. No one ever said it was a crime as you put it. MR. Munsey could not say anything bad about real estate as it would preclude him from having a job. A functioning market determines prices, and the market in Bedstuy for a 1br is not demanding 2500. It is an outlier in the nabe for now. someone will pay it, yes. Are they paying too much in the nabe. yes.
Dibs. i’ve been reading this blog since forever. Amzi should comment on the architectural merits of the property and not the prices. As an agent, he is always conflicted when it comes to determining what relative prices are. The higher the prices go, the more commision he makes as an agent. Higher prices would theoretically be welcomed and championed by AMZI. That’s where the conflict comes in. Brush up on your reading comp DIBS. For agents, the higher the price the more steady are their ships.
