There is plenty of space inside this Prospect Park South house with its abundance of bedrooms, a finished basement, and a private driveway. The early 20th century dwelling has some interior updates, but still retains wood floors, a grand staircase, built-ins, and stained glass.

In the Prospect Park South Historic District, this house at 155 Stratford Road is one of multiple on the block constructed by builder George T. Moore between 1905 and 1906. It appears from filings that Moore worked with architect George E. Showers. According to land transfers recorded in 1905, owner Dean Alvord transferred eight lots on the block, including this one, to Lizzie Moore, wife of George Moore. At the time the street was known as East Eleventh Street.

By the fall of 1906 this Colonial Revival style house, which the designation report calls “unpretentious,” was completed and sold to the first owners. Colonial Revival details include the columned front porch and a front door with sidelights and pilasters.

There is a small vestibule behind that front door which opens to a foyer with the original stair and access to a curved sunroom. That sunroom has modern windows, noted at the time of designation. The same windows appear in most first floor rooms.

There is a wood-burning fireplace in the parlor with a period-appropriate Colonial Revival style mantel. Built-ins with arched trim flank a windowed niche. White moldings ornament the walls.

Some tweaks to the doorways between the dining room and kitchen opened the flow between the two spaces. The dining room has a columned mantel, wainscoting, a beamed ceiling, more built-ins, and a windowed bay. Sliding doors open to a deck.

In the kitchen, an island provides some additional seating. The generously sized room has wood cabinets, recessed lighting, and two exposures. A new owner might want to tweak the design — there is plenty of room to get creative. There is access to a half bath, while another set of sliding doors lead out to the rear deck.

There are seven bedrooms and three bathrooms spread over the upper two floors. The listing photos show some staged as informal family rooms and offices.

On the second floor there is a generously-sized suite, with an ensuite bath lined in vintage white subway tile. A pass-through connects the front and rear bedrooms. A second bathroom has a corner shower and tub with blue tile surround.

The third floor bath appears to have various tile updates, with some Deco-era blue fixtures in place.

Laundry is in the basement along with a rec room and storage.

A screened-in porch isn’t accessible from the house, but off the rear deck. The porch has access to a staircase which leads down to a storage shed and the private driveway.

The rear yard is paved with room for seating and container gardening. A raised bed, planted with shrubs and perennials, stretches along the rear of the yard.

Laura Rozos of Compass has the listing and the house is priced at $3.1 million. What do you think?
