This two-bedroom rental has a flexible layout and vintage details, including wide doorways, parquet with inlaid borders and an old-school kitchen. It has a somewhat secluded location in the rear of the second story of a small walkup building and, notably, windows on all four sides.
The building at 174 15th Street in Park Slope has stayed remarkably intact since it opened in 1929 ahead of the famed Black Monday stock market crash that ushered in the Depression. Its variegated brick facade with three diamonds under a parapet, horizontal bands and an arched entrance appears virtually unaltered since its circa 1939 tax photo.
Architect E. M Adelsohn designed it with only two apartments on each of its four floors. The building wraps around a shared courtyard, with front and rear apartments separated by the building’s stairs.
The units have not been broken up, and many original details remain, old listing photos show. This one has a spacious hallway with two windows and room for a table, bench or bookshelves. There are high ceilings, parquet floors, plaster walls, moldings and picture rails throughout.

The living room has three windows on two exposures and overlooks the backyard. An adjacent room accessed via two French doors can be used as a dining room or second bedroom, although it lacks a closet.
There is plenty of space for a dining table in the kitchen, which retains its classic cream and black subway tile walls and a wall of built-in cupboards and a sideboard, visible in an old listing photo.
The main bedroom faces the courtyard and has one closet. Two more closets are in the hall opposite the updated all-white bathroom, old floor plans show. There is shared laundry in the basement.
Since the building sold to a new owner in 2015, about two listings have come up for rent each year.
Listed by Pik-Yee Berwick, Dan Chen and two other agents, all from Corcoran, the two-bedroom is asking $3,500 a month. What do you think of it?
