All this house needs is some fresh decor and it will be a stunner. The house seems to have everything, including the original passthroughs and a wood burning stove in the kitchen, not to mention the original butler’s pantry and elaborate late-Victorian wood moldings.

The six original mantels include a wooden one with Minton-style Shakespearean themed tile in the parlor and a faux painted slate one in one of the top floor bedrooms. The house appears to be in move-in condition, with updated bathrooms and kitchen.

It’s set up as a one-family, and is zoned for P.S. 321, according to the listing. Do you think they will get their ask of $3,710,000?

  1. I would kill for that old wood stove sitting in my kitchen hearth. Not sure what I would do with the Bertazzoni, as that is where it currently sits, but I hear actual cooking is overrated. We eat out a lot. The kitchen is that room where the microwave and refrigerator are located. It looks good however. I love the look of those old wood burning brick set ranges which is what my house also had originally. I hope they don’t gut this old beauty. If you want to build a sterile white wall condo, please just buy a vacant lot somewhere and don’t buy a century old house with details only to turn it into a sheetrock condo you could buy in a new construction anywhere.

  2. I was a little bit bored today and looked up BK demographics in wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Brooklyn

In 1950 the population in brooklyn was 2,738,000 as of 2010 it was 2,504,700. 10% lower than the it was 60 years ago. It dipped to it’s lowest in the 80’s at 2.2million people, but if Brooklyn continues the uptrend in population assuming equivalent growth why wouldn’t it see ~300 more multimillionaires (1.5%) entering the burrough snapping up these gems?

I like to think people with enough common sense to make that much money and interest in properties such as ones like this know better than to gut it. After all that’s why you would purchase it – to have all the cool old world details, otherwise what’s the point.

My answer – yeah they’ll get it but it might sit on the market for a little while.
