This new listing at 7 Columbia Place is a very special house. It’s one of original houses that made up “Cottage Row” in Brooklyn Heights (there used to be nine and now there are only four) and from the outside it looks very much like it must have when it was built in the early 1800’s. The interior, somewhat unfortunately in our view, doesn’t look very much like it must have 200 years ago. Someone’s done a perfectly nice renovation (and maybe there wasn’t much that was salvageable) but it lacks historic charm. (We’d love to see, for example, some exposed joists.) As we said, though, it’s a perfectly nice interior–and the backyard has been done very nicely. It’s a relatively small house, too, but the location, tucked away into a quiet corner of Brooklyn Heights, is very nice. The asking price is $2,995,000.

“lacks historic charm. We’d love to see, for example, some exposed joists.”
ha. how precious. historically, i don’t think it would have had any exposed joists.
It is a little short on bathrooms for 2.9 million dollars.
the second floor needs to be expanded and a real bathroom added.
These little houses never had any particular architectural details inside or out. Their charm comes from their age and simplicity. I think the owner has done a fabulous job on the interiors. I pass by often and had no idea the interior was so modern. I really love it and the location is really nice. I can’t speak to the price though, that seems high. But 2900 taxes per year? that is sweet.
nice work!
