We went to the open house for 535 3rd Street yesterday, and this is the most intact brownstone in the best condition we have ever seen. (Click through to the jump for lots of photos not in the listing.) It’s still a one-family house, and except for the kitchen and baths — altered in the mid-20th century — is essentially unchanged. There are three parlors, including a cozy room at the back of the house with windows on two sides and a corner fireplace. The passthroughs between bedrooms, separated by pocket doors, have their original china bowls with a pink floral decoration. The front master bedroom has two gas jet sconces (we didn’t turn them on to see if they work). The windows are original, come with storms, and move up and down with the flick of a pinky. The house sold in June for $2,950,000. We didn’t see it then, but going by the photos, it appears the new owners removed the kitchen wallpaper but otherwise left the house alone. The new price is $3,400,000. Do you think they will get it?

It’s really sad that Cate has more photos here than in the listing.
Are brokers getting lazy?
getting??
maybe they started the renovation (removing the kitchen wallpaper), ran out of money and now have to sell.
and not all of it. they left the ugly wallpaper in the front parlor.
