House of the Day: 240 78th Street

Not exactly our cup of tea but different strokes for different folks. Maybe there’s someone out there ready to shell over $3,950,000 for 5,339 square feet of “masterfully renovated” space. Any takers?

this kid has a lot of debt on this property and is looking for a home run. looks way too over-improved to me. my guess is he’s in way over his head. but hey, this should be up someone’s alley down there, right?
dik, you’re a dick.
I am so tired of the self-appointed righteous defenders of the American way,
my goodness, so many posters are acting like snobs from Edith Wharton novels. New money!…euuhhh!!!
I honestly don’t see how this house is so different than the ones next to it in terms of size and massing. It actually fits in pretty well; this is not an historic district. Granted, the solid garden fence is not friendly and should be replaced. But the rest of the house is not bad. Obviously the railings above the porch and at the third floor balcony are not yet finished.
These incredibly hostile comments have more to do with ethnic prejudice and snobbishness than with the architecture, which is not appalling. Rich people live like this in the United States now. Some of you need to get out of Brooklyn more.
This is why I’m glad I live in a historic district. Then no one can build a monstrosity like this in my nabe.
Also how can you build a house like this and have no Statues, and barely any room for statues….this thing is going to sit a long time!
Sorry there is no defending this house – it is horrible. I dont find the exterior architecture of the house so bad (although railings would be nice) but everything else about it is insane (in a bad way)
It makes no sense – was this built for 3 families (with a shared pool/game room and movie theater) or the fattest laziest people in America – a kitchen on every floor??? WTF –
I am buying a $4M house an I got space (no garage) for ONE CAR?? – I mean the guy who is looking for this has probably got 3-5 high end vehicles.
Horrible flooring (and its EVERYWHERE)
Should have an elevator at this price and style
and clearly this guy hates plants, you couldnt grow something if you tried.
This house is an abomination – and I might be partial to a 5K sg ft house with a pool and a cabana anywhere that you can get a subway. But this thing is just awful.
The Situation called. He’d like his house back.
dave, it is a nice break from the narrow little parlors and narrow little rickety stairs and wondering how to fit a dining room AND a kitchen on the same floor. I mean, if you want to pay three million dollars for a house in brooklyn having a place to park your car and a place to take a little swim sounds reasonable to me. We are used to seeing house that cost millions that frankly have little to offer by way of luxury. Pretentiousness perhaps, luxury, no.
If only there was room for an Escalade. I dont think you can get anything in there bigger than an SL65 AMG
