House of the Day: 186 MacDonough Street
Does it seem as if all of Bed Stuy is for sale? This one’s a real looker with seven full-on Aesthetic Movement fireplaces, incised details on the exterior brownstone, a screen topping French doors, a stained glass transom over French doors, shutters, and other details. Does it seem as if all of Bed Stuy is for sale? This one’s a real looker with seven full-on Aesthetic Movement fireplaces, incised details on the exterior brownstone, a screen topping French doors, a stained glass transom over French doors, shutters, and other details. The listing says it was built in the 1880s. It’s configured as an owner’s duplex with two 1.5-bedroom floor-through rental units above (with market-rate leases). There are no photos of bathrooms or kitchens but the listing copy says the rental bathrooms are “modern.” We don’t know what that booth thing encasing the bed in the top floor rental is but we like it. It’s in the Stuy Heights Historical District. What do you think of the house and the price of $1,295,000?

its crazy!!!! I went to an open house on this block (187?) about 2 months ago which is already gone, another open house about 4-5 months ago (189 maybe?) which is also gone. I mean, is this really a good block? Is this part of bedstuy really going to eventually get up to 3-4 mil so soon too?
I agree with Omar on a lot of points.
Here’s a listing that baffles my mind price wise.

But I do love the 1/2 fireplace in two rooms.

Seems like there are a lot more listings for houses in Bed Stuy. I guess homeowners are realizing they can get big bucks for their houses.
I saw this property yesterday and I am sure it will be gone tomorrow at way way over asking.. It was a very lovely place in Stuyvesant Heights. The owners have taken great care of it… This house made me happy when I walked inside and yes it was built in 1888.
“And that listing you posted; have you looked at the block that this house is on; It is probably one of the worst blocks in Bed Stuy that I’ve seen.”
Worst blocks? How can a 1.2 million dollar house be on one of the worst blocks in bed stuy? *scratches head*
And to boot, the house is only 17’w x 35’d. That’s $670 sq. ft. to live on one of the ‘worst’ blocks.
