very pleasant in every direction?
-are we talking about the Marais or Ditmas Park?
The problem with Ditmas Park (and I know I’m going to get grief for this) is that it is landlocked and surrounded by miles and miles and miles of nothing but Brooklyn.
I was going to say poop on a stick
Some people like big houses.
I just suspect that if parents have enough going on financially to buy a 1.5 million dollar house, they are not going to be happy sending their kids to “alright” public schools. As for commuting, a lot of folks commute by car including judges, physicians, partners in law firms, construction contractors, and people who own or work in small businesses headquartered outside of Manhattan. There’s a big world out there beyond the subway.
that being said, when you have two kids, it’s easy to fill up a “six bedroom” house. one for parents, two for kids, one for guests, one for home office = that’s five. the sixth can be a specific playroom so the toys are managed.
granted, i only have three bedrooms with two kids, so i can easily imagine uses for six!
just to continue commenting on schools in Ditmas: they’re not that good, compared with the good ones in the Brownstone belt.
and the other side of “that’s what it’s like to live in ditmas park…” is a lot of ugly commercial strips (CIA, Ocean Avenue, Church, etc.) Cortelyou is awesome, but it’s the only one.
it’s a long term proposition, for sure, and one i’m toying with, because the houses are so frickin beautiful.
C:
great looking house. low taxes. i agree that this area is becoming “discovered”. Unfortunately the public schools suck and that is a big deal for families with kids. Better to pay 20k taxes in the burbs and send the kiddies to excellent free schools where you don’t have to worry. But for a child-free couple or single this looks great -especially if they commute by car. I do think it is listed about 200,000 too high.
What? No almond?
