House of the Day: 61A South Elliott Place
We probably would have chosen some different kitchen cabinets and it ain’t the widest brownstone in town, but this new Marketplace listing at 61A South Elliott Place has lots of original charm and is about as centrally located in Fort Greene as you can get. (We’re actually surprised the broker didn’t include “steps to the park” in the listing verbiage!) Anyway, given the size of the house it’ll be interesting to see how close to the asking price of $1,700,000 they can get. Any bets?

I think I would be VERY hesitant to get rid of the kitchen cabinets. They are really beautiful.
Whoa, those cabinets are funky. I might paint them red and keep them.
(I do not think “we probably would have chosen some different kitchen cabinets” qualifies as snarky, BoerumHill.)
I love the kitchen.
GUARENTEED SELLS FOR AT OR OVER ASK! I’ve never seen anything like the Fort Greene real estate market, so many properties selling at or close to ask no matter how crazy it seems. Hottest Nabe in BK!
GREAT location. BUT… super narrow house, old kitchens (and probably bathrooms — no pics, please note), painted woodwork. $1.4 – 1.5m seems more appropriate, and only that high because of the block.
Can’t comment on the price, but I don’t particularly care for the house. Super narrow means extra vertical living arrangements. Yes, there are details but look closely at the pocket doors and you’ll see some damages.
Jolie maison!
We are almost certain this will sell very close to asking given the excellent location and historic details. Cabinets are fine plus can easily be changed.

If there were a widget, it would be easy to do this!
The kitchen cabinetry is fine IMO.
People are always worried about trendy color choices in kitchen design. Unless you’re going with avocado or pickled maple, I think any natural color choice is fine.
Brownstoner always rips on dark kitchen cabinets (even when its a natural color tone). Its one of his favorite idioms, a la ‘ony a 3-story’ and ‘maintenance seems high’. Dark cabinetry always draws a snarky remark about design choice. Tedious, but more or less expected at this point.
Here’s a tip, JB: its not a design choice, its your personal palette preference.
