600 Hancock Street hit the market in April with an asking price of $650,000. With no deal done yet, the price was trimmed by $15,000 last week to $635,000. We’re not quite sure what to make of this place: Someone’s definitely put some care into renovating it, but we suspect that some of the decisions aren’t going to fly with a lot of buyers: There’s not nearly as much original detail as we’d hope to see in a house in this area and the plant-free backyard is a bit bleak for our tastes. Given these issues and the fact that the house is only 2 1/2 stories and less than 16 feet wide, we’re going to guess that the price will need some more trimming to get a deal done.

  1. $650K for a workman’s shack in the heart of the ghetto a half mile from the nearest subway line?

OR, I could buy a house in Stamford a similar distance from the train station, not pay city income tax, not get shot, not worry about my daughter getting raped, and have a faster commute on a metro north train!

  2. Tax class is tw family (converted from one); last C of O is 1 family (old code). And there is no facade shot at all on the listing page – the one above looks to be from PropertyShark.
