houseEvery now and then Craigslist yields something interesting. This three-family on Decatur Street looks like it would be worth checking out for $600,000. Of course, the lack of interior pics gets a red flag (or yellow card, given it’s World Cup time) and there’s not much description. Still if there really are “some details” as the ad promises and the house isn’t a complete wreck, you might have something to work with. No mention of an agency so maybe this is a poached listing. Anyone know anything?

  1. anon 11:12 please keep your racist/classist BS going. I am hoping to keep as many people like you out of my hood. Fact is there are many of us who are living large and happy in Bed-stuy. We like being able to park easily on the street, we like our neighbors, we like the culture, we like the quiet; and we love living at a cut rate compared to class/ethnic enclaves that have recently been carved out in other parts of Brooklyn. With any luck we will strike the right balance between welcoming newcomers who want to get down with Bed-Stuy and old timers who want to keep things real. So please contiue to tell your friends and family how over-priced and dangerous the Stuy is so I can mantain my quality of life.

  2. 700k is hardly peanuts, but relatively speaking, it is less than half the price of four-story houses anywhere else in Brooklyn.

Around the corner are some nice buildings, not to mention the school with the just completed $30 million dollar renovation a block away. If you think these deals will last, you are mistaken. I haven’t seen a house in the low 6’s in a while. 5’s are already gone.

  3. Hey anon 7/7/06 11:12 AM,

Just because the block looks nice doesn’t mean anything, it’s the whole surrounding neighborhood. I could around the corner and it looks like crap. Wake up, people.
Is $700K just peanuts, can you afford it, hmmmmmm?

  4. gentrification has no bearing here. if you’re looking for gentrification, then you must pay handsomely for it. The fact is, this is an established block in Bed-Stuy, with a strong sense of community and long-time homeowners on the block.

Here you can have a 4-story piece of real estate at a price that is quickly evaporating. Do a general search now for houses of this size and from this period of history, on a similarly tree-lined block and see how many come up for under $700,000, anywhere in Brooklyn. “Gentrified” or not. You won’t need more than one hand to count the results.

  5. This is not even close to Pratt, over 2+ miles away. The location is not great either, and probably not worth that price.
Just because you are selling a Brownstone, albeit white and green, does not mean it is a good price if it is below $1MM. Look at the nabe, not gentrified yet, not even close.
