houseWe were scrolling down to look at the newest Brooklyn listings on the Douglas Elliman site when this place on the Upper East Side grabbed us for sentimental reasons. The four-story Queen Anne house is located on a private cul-de-sac between York and East End Avenues on 86th Street called Henderson Place. Growing up, although we lived on the less genteel stretch of York Avenue around the corner, we had two friends with houses on the private street (which includes private parking!) The houses are reasonably small (this one’s 2,500 square feet) in scale but have a wonderful old feel. Both of our friends’ houses hadn’t been renovated in any meaningful way as memory serves. About six of us who lived nearby would gether in one of the houses every morning and watch cartoons for ten minutes or so before running across the street to watch the legions of girls getting off the 86th Street crosstown bus at its terminus before climbing aboard ourselves for the west-bound ride.

  1. Love it. Traditional on the outside but modern on the inside. Clean lines yet still a few touches to keep it from looking cold and stark. Isn’t happiness in life all about balance. I especially like the kitchen and the angles in the bedroom wall/ceiling. Very nice.
