Eagle Warehouse Loft Soars
If we weren’t doing the brownstone thing, we could certainly be more than happy in a loft like this. If we weren’t doing the brownstone thing, we could certainly be more than happy in a loft like this. Carved out of the former Brooklyn Daily Eagle building at 208 Old Fulton Street in Dumbo, this eighth-floor loft was co-op’d in 1980 and renovated in 1997 by architect Michael Davis. When it comes to condos, in our opinion a converted space like this is so much more desirable than one in a newly-constructed building.
The Eagle Warehouse Loft [Time Out NY]
I also live in the Eagle. The maintenance charge on the Clock apt. could not be $2000/mo in 1995; it is probably around $1100 today. The sales are averaging between $600-700/sq. ft, depending upon the state of renovation.
And it is in Fulton Ferry, at 28 Old Fulton St.
I live in the Eagle, it’s a great building. I don’t believe John Malkovich has ever lived there – he certainly doesn’t now. Most of the larger apts (1800 sq ft) are going for around $1.2M. Renovations vary dramatically – some are spectacular, others still have the 80’s cabinets from the original conversion. Still, the price per sq ft is a lot lower than anything in DUMBO right now, and the maintenance is well under $1 per sq ft. It is certainly true that many of the apts in the building have limited windows/light. This is especially true for units facing Old Fulton. However, units on the the south and west side of the building have many more windows, and tremendous views to boot.
I checked out that apartment in 1995. It was listed for 175k. I still feel a sharp twinge of regret whenever I see that clock. Sigh.
hey Whitbo, plugging BHS is fine – just do it right.
This is clearly not the clock apt. in the link you posted.
This is however Fulton Ferry Landing – not Brooklyn Heights or Dumbo.
The Eagle Warehouse has been here for over a 100 years and you still misrepresent it??
If you are going to supply your blog by regurgetating 3 year old TONY articles fine, but don’t reprint the mistakes also! 208 Old Fulton is not the address either. Reread your post, I don’t want to flame – just get it right, perhaps you’re not the one that should be blogging the new devlopment and old buildings!?
Come on! The real post here is a good old opinion driven talk about the differences, plus/minus’ in all new construction vs. conversion. Brownstoner has become popular, congrats – but it is clear you’re out of your element. Would like to see you reveal some evidence you know anything about brownstones either…but hey, that’s just one opinion…
Technically this is not Dumbo but Fulton Ferry
I’m pretty sure this 1800-sq ft 1bdrm listing is from the Eagle Warehouse, judging by the view of the Brooklyn Bridge.
In contract, asking price $1.2 mil —

The loft with the clock is great, but all the others have such small windows! But that’s what you get when you convert a fort-like building.
when we were looking for a place back in 1996-1999, we checked out this loft. i forget the asking price, but the maintenance was around $2000, which we thought was outrageous at the time.
oddly enough when we were renovating the brownstone we bought, we interviewed mr. davis as a potential architect…he is quite a character.
Easy, easy! So feisty today!
I saw Malkovich down there probably six years or so ago now, and it was fairly DUMBO-ish at the time. Not the hookers, junkies and rats DUMBO of the mid-90s, but totally deserted. Except for pizza and ice cream. Which might be enough. Probably would be for me.
