We’ve always been curious about this building at 79 Bridge Street in Vinegar Hill. From what we can tell, the Scarano-designed conversion happened in 2003. (Pains were clearly taken to preserve some of the exterior structure and brickwork.) There has not been a lot of turnover in the past couple of years, which might explain why we have not had occasion to post about it before. This 796-square-foot unit has outdoor space and is asking $679,000. A similar-sized unit on the fourth floor sold for $580,000 about a year ago. From what we can see in the photos, it’s a perfectly attractive, if somewhat unremarkable, interior. Anyone know anything about this building?

  1. I live in this building now and have for over 2 1/2 years. It’s great! We have a market around the corner, the subways close by, pretty quiet at night ‘cept for the Manh Bridge trains, and all of the ‘amenities’ of DUMBO. A few muggings here and there, like anywhere in NYC. This building is a gem, and there’s a small community of people who live in it….very tight. BTW, this apt is beautiful as well, and I am not a broker fyi.

  2. I used to have my furniture making shop in this building. It was all wood shops and other craftspeople. Some Vinegar Hill residents group got the block re-zoned for mixed use and we all got the boot. Then a bunch of hipsters got to move in and “discover” the area.
the cops would use my shop window as a vantage point with a walkie talkie to make drug busts in the Farragut houses. They once caught a school bus driver who drove his bus in to score.Good times.

  3. I’ve been in this building. I think it’s all hype. the places are okay, fixtures too. some of the outdoor terraces actually look INTO the building not out of the building!the building will be blocked by whatever monstrosety the jehovah’s put in the lot across the street, hence blocking any ray of sunlight (or views) you once had. they are about 100K too high
