We’ve been critical of the exterior renovation of 443 Clinton Avenue but had yet to see the interior until we stumbled across a virtual tour on the Century 21 website. While the reno ain’t gonna win any prizes, we were at least pleased to see that the developers kept the original flooring. The exposed brick is a very strange call though, isn’t it? It’s hard to tell from the limited visuals, but the layout looks a little awkward too. Too bad the whole thing comes off as so slap-dash. Given the location and building, they should have been able to get the $759,000 for 1,200 square feet if they’d done it right. In their current state, the apartments have been languishing on the market. Does anyone know if any of the seven units have sold yet?

  1. Personally, I think most of the “restored” interiors that many rave about are dark and gloomy, given the typical brownstone lighting. I have never been a fan of too much wood, particulary dark wood, even the floors shown above.

    When we finally painted all the trim in our parlor floor white, the room looked so much lighter, better and move livable than before.

    And of course it saves a lot of money to not strip off 50 layers of paint.

I’ve followed the comments on this condo with amazement.Why all the criticism?It’s really very nice with several beautiful features like a stained glass bay window with a window seat in the front bedroom and a very large master with a private deck.The brick is much nicer than shown and not the harsh color in the pic. I believe 6 of the 7 units are sold.Much nicer than others in the nabe in the same price range.

I have been watching this building for a while and judging from the pics the reno looks terribly cheap with fixtures that don’t look any better than what you would find in a rental (and what is the advantage of baseboard heating anyway?). they would have been better off allowing people to just put in their own kitchens and bathrooms I think. There was also some bruhaha with Historic Preservation because they stripped the exterior brick and caused damage and I think they may have had togo to court over it although I am not totally sure. Anyway, there was some court-related wrangling that kept the units off the market over a year after the reno was complete.

    It looks like there may be some people living there now though because I’ve seen lights on at night and some windows have curtains.
