It’s been a while (almost a year) since we paid any attention to 505 Court Street, the condo conversion of the former Doehler Die Building in Carroll Gardens. This 702-square-foot one-bedroom loft is now on the market with a price tag of $535,000. The finishes are unremarkable, but the ceiling height and windows are always nice in this building. As an aside, it appears that the entire building is now wrapped in plastic as some major repair work is done on the concrete facade.

  1. (I did really love the neighborhood, though. Still miss it. Nice local stores, a lot of people who had lived in the area their whole loves, and some pretty streets. It’s gotten more yuppie, but I still get a little jealous when I’m over there.)

  2. I lived in this building (in a great 3BR corner unit) back in 2003(?) when they made the switch to selling from renting. The views are fabulous, the ceilings are tall, but it is far from a luxe joint (or at least that was the case in our unit) and the property managers, if they’re the same ones, were the worst I’ve ever dealt with. Horrible horrible people.

For 350k, worth it. For 530k, not so much.

  3. Dear haters,

Don’t judge a man till you’ve walked a mile in his shoes.

Well the same can be said of this building. Sure it has some issues but it is actually a great building to live in, it has a great staff and the condominium is solid. I don’t think there is a building in this city that doesn’t have some issues with it.

Stop hating on 505 Court Street and the area. I don’t hear too many people complaining about the neighborhood when they are lined up around the block to eat at Buttermilk Channel or Frankies or Prime Meats or Lucali….

I think some of you may be jealous of the 8′ windows ;P

  4. I’ve never understood why prices are so high in this area–this is more Gowanus than Carroll Gardens or Boerum Hill–great if you like to eat out at the Lowe’s employee lunch room or swim in the Gowanus canal.

Good luck to the sellers indeed.
