We’re conflicted about this new listing at 119 Prospect Park West. On the one hand, the prewar duplex has some of the nicest original details we’ve seen in a long time along with some quirky touches that give it a ton of charm; on the other hand, some of the newer design choices (staircase and kitchen, to be more specific) look like they were made by a flipper/contractor. Tough call. Asking price is $745,000 and the maintenance is a manageable $850 a month.

This listing reminds me of “bad celebrity plastic surgery” posts.
I agree there seem to be lots of pros and cons to this place, but I think the price does reflect that. I don’t mind the staircase too terribly much, but I do find the kitchen rather unpleasant. What bothers me most is the complete lack of privacy; too much openness between “bedroom” and the rest of the place. I’d be okay with that if I lived alone and planned to continue doing so. But even with just two people, that wouldn’t work for me. But beautiful building and nice location (if you don’t mind being right on PPW, which I imagine might be a bit busy, especially at ground-level).
