This new listing at 101 Eighth Avenue is a little unusual–in both good and bad ways. The building itself (known as the J.W. Weber House) has a mansion-like grandeur to it, and some of the architectural details and proportions in the one-bedroom apartment reflect that fact. In addition to the moldings, original windows and 10-foot ceilings, there’s also a private deck thrown into the mix. The unusual aspect of the apartment is the kitchen, which is raised three steps from the living area; it seems to work pretty nicely, but it’s not what you expect when you walk into most prewar apartments. (Most of the time when you see this kind of configuration you enter at the upper level and then step down in to the sunken living room.) Anyway, the maintenance of $759 a month seems reasonable for what we’re guessing is about an 850-square-foot pad. The asking price of $719,000 seems a bit high for what the apartment itself is, both the location and architectural pedigree of the building itself may be enough to compensate. Waddya think?
