The owners of the Court Street building had been previously fined and there was a partial stop work order on the property, our sister pub Brooklyn Paper reports.

A Carroll Gardens building housing a gym completely collapsed Wednesday afternoon.
The three-story structure at the corner of Court and Union streets fell in on itself around 4:40 pm, according to a spokeswoman for the Police Department. It had been recently cited by the DOB for unsafe conditions. Going by its appearance and area history, it was likely built as a townhouse or storefront in the third quarter of the 19th century.
