Teaming Up for Bigger - and Better - Boards

Electronic bulletin boards are one of those things that benefit greatly from what economists call the “network effect,” i.e. they become more useful the more users there are. With this in mind, we have decided to join forces with Brooklynian.com, which already has built by far the biggest group of neighborhood boards in the borough (dwarfing our own recent attempt to start something similar). The site, owned and operated by the man behind Daily Heights and Daily Slope, already has huge scale in Prospect Heights, Park Slope and Crown Heights and critical mass in BoCoCa and the Fort Greene-Bed Stuy corridor; a recently-launched Red Hook board also has being gaining momentum.
We hope that by tying in the Brownstoner and Brooklyn Record communities we’ll be able to broaden Brooklynian’s user base and thereby make it an even more useful resource. We’ll also build out more topical and geographic areas to complement the subject matter on Brownstoner and Brooklyn Record. Part of what’s fun about the Brooklynian boards is that the site has become more than a place to advertise a stoop sale. Rather, its core users treat it as a blog-like forum to record their observations and experiences within their neighborhoods. If you haven’t checked out the site before, we encourage you to take a look and let us know your suggestions.
Thanks,
Mr. B
Not sure why but Brooklynian.com is inaccessible at work. For some strange reason, Brownstoner.com makes it through our corporate firewall but Brooklynian.com does not. Any reason why? My company blocks all blogsites but Brownstoner.com is not considered one. Why?
Excellent move, I think. I am avid reader of Brooklynian/Daily Heights and I tire of going back and forth. Makes lots of sense and I think it could be a synergistic partnership. Those unfamiliar with the site should check it out first, then decide.
I think it’s a great move. I noticed many of the queries received lots of views, but few responses.
Great idea. Everyone will benefit from more eyeballs on each post.
No, no, no. The forum is alive and well!
Does this mean the forum is going away too?
I’m not a big bulletin board reader, but seems to make sense to me.
Mr. B, “useful,” that’s in the mind of the beholder, reader, poster. Posts got many, many views over time. Small Town woes now that the Boards have moved to the big City.
We’ll adjust. Just ashame to see something small and growing get swallowed. But, it may be for the best…
Don’t worry. The old content hasn’t been tossed. It’s going to be transferred over. If you were a regular user of the boards on Brooklyn Record, surely you are aware that there there was not sufficient traffic on them to make them particularly useful.
