Crown Heights Brownstone With Details, SRO Status Asks $1.699 Million

Here’s an Axel Hedman-designed Crown Heights brownstone that needs work, and probably a lot of it, but could possibly polish up quite nicely. Built circa 1899, it’s in the Crown Heights North Historic District, at 995 Sterling Place.
We say “could possibly” because there’s a lot that’s not shown, but the glimpses we get show some nice original detail: bay windows with stained glass transoms, crown moldings, parquet floors, a big pier mirror, a mirrored mantel, an entry bench and mirror in the front hallway.
By now we ought to mention that it’s got an SRO designation, though a certificate of non-harassment has “been submitted,” which we take to mean it’s been applied for. However, despite the SRO status, an all-cash deal may not be required, the broker let us know.

So there are some hurdles to jump, but possibly a nice reward at the finish line.
The house sold in March 2016 for $910,000; by the look of it the buyers haven’t done a whole lot with it since then. They put it up for sale earlier this year at $1.775 million.
Now, listed by Maurits Pesch, the house has come down a bit, and is asking $1.699 million. Which still isn’t cheap under the circumstances; think they’ll get it?
