Agree with Flatbush comments–for a few years, it seemed like too much of the tour was to sell houses and the designer kitchens were showcased rather than period details
The House tours were instrumental in helping me choose between Fort Green/Clinton Hill, Lefferts and Ditmas Park when I was house hunting. I was able to narrow down to the one neighborhood that really had everything I was looking for, and then search strategically from there. By the way, don’t discount Fillmore. You would be amazed by the deals that slip through them every once in a blue moon.
This is a great service. After waiting three years to begin renovating our house, we found the perfect match in a house on the slope tour. That one house answered almost all of our design questions.
Step up to the plate, Flatbush! Last year was fantastic – the three previous years were huge disappointments. I don’t want to see any newly remodelled kitchens and baths. I can do that in my own house. Show me the detail, baby!
I volunteered at a house tour the year we bought into our new neighborhood and had a really great time. All I did was spend a few hours standing in the living room of one of the show houses to keep an eye on things. Everyone was very nice and I got a chance to meet a lot of my new neighbors.
Ditto fo PLG and, I think, for most other neighborhoods.
One of the perks of volunteering for the PH tour is that you receive a free ticket!
It’s not usually necessary to buy tickets very far in advance, although most tours offer advance tickets at a discount. For example, our (PLG) house tour tickets are $20 on tour day, but $15 in advance. I think some tours (IIRC Park Slope) have occasionally sold out, so you might not want to wait until the day of the tour. I hope that Mr B. will post a more detailed list, with contact #s, Email addresses, websites, etc. once the final listing is available.
At least for the Clinton Hill tour you can get tickets the day of.
