You may actuallly be able to get a contractor to return your call and show up on time if recent trends continue, the Wall Street Journal reports. Some areas, like the Midwest and parts of the Northeast, are experiencing a slowdown in remodeling as rising rates and a moderating real estate market give homeowners pause. The $150 billion industry is far from hurting to be sure: In hot spots like Northern California, all the slowdown means is a reduction in waiting time to start a project from about five months to three months. How about here in Brooklyn? How have readers been finding contractors’ availability and attitudes lately?

  1. Believe it or not there are kind, honest, generous, reasonably priced contractors working in NYC. It’s very hard to find them, but they exist.

My contracter has been incredibly busy lately with lots of projects, but he always answers his cellphone and my house renovation is proceeding smoothly.

Not everybody is a selfish son of a beeyatch, though I must conceed, in NYC it does seem like there sure are a lot of’em out there.

  2. Can someone recommend a contractor or just a demolition guy who’d work in the carroll gardens area?

My friend got a quote for removal of all the fixtures in the kitchen & bathroom (appliances, cabinets, tiles, tub, etc) in an elevator building for $1275. Is that reasonable?
