We didn’t know there was so much anti-Yassky sentiment out there when we wrote a post about our disillusionment with the city councilman from the 33rd District last week. Well, to be fair, we don’t know that there’s a lot of anti-Yassky sentiment–but at least one person cares enough about it to have started an entire website and blog devoted to derailing the pol’s Congressional aspirations. One link on the new site is to a post on the Daily Gotham blog about how the very fact that Yassky is white makes him a non-starter as a replacement for Congressman Owens. We’d like to think that’s not true. Are we just being naive?

I hope to put the rest the problems of Mister yassky’s track record.
The man has a possible underground railroad site in his district, but he rather support big real estate development and the expansion of real estate. If you want to vote for a guy trying to get the votes of a congressional district to encourage minority representation, yet he wont stand up for minority representation raise your hand. This is the Councilmen who was involved in the Landmarking fiasco which got residents displaced for luxury housing, Want to vote for him raise your hand. Yassky was also slow on the draw regarding the Large Development that would have blocked the view of the Brooklyn Bridge, Even Markowitz opposed that project. It took Councilmen Avella to chase the developers out of the room, Before you know who got on the bandwagon.
The Man has made enemies of his consistuents in Greenpoint,Downtown Brooklyn. He has even made enemies trying to interfere with a landmark district of Oliver Koppel because he want the money to run for congress.
A guy who is relying on getting the 30 percent vote. Dont dislike Yassky because he’s white. He can be a nice guy when the moon is full. But he is a discrace as a reformer.
I am white. There is a history of place and a history of districting that makes this an appropriate place for an african-american candidate to win the race. This is not a democracy we live in it’s a representative govt structure. We need some (read: much more!) african-american voices to represent this country in Congress and at all levels of our government. This doesn’t mean race should be the deciding factor, but I for one would like to see a better representation of our general population in office than there is currently.
Chris Owens is a dud who doesn’t stand a chance of winning this election. Too many people will dismiss him as trying to ride in on the coattails of his father. It’s either Andrews or Yasky and it should be an exciting race.
To the person who called me a “towel head negro”: I’m not surprised. I’ve always found that when someone lacks the intelligence to debate, they resort to name calling. I’d claim Condi Rice or Colin Powell over your ignorance any day.
184 Kent was designed by Cass Gilbert not McKim, Mead and White. Yassky made a lot of the people he supposedly represents angry with that fiasco. He doesn’t live in Williamsburg so how can he decide what places matter to the community? If he represents any new constituency the way he has represented Williamsburg that consituency had better look out! A wee bit deficient in the integrity department.

I’m white and live in a mostly Black neighborhood. I don’t care who represents me in terms of skin color as long as they do their best for the community. Believe me Yassky in no way fits the bill. I do not trust him, he betrays people and he uses them. He tells everyone what they want to hear and then does what he wants.
I don’t know much about Chris Owens but I definitely want to find out more about him now.

Chris Owens is by far the best candidate. As a black man and a CD 11 resident, I have no problem being represented by a non-black but you can have Yassky. He’s an opportunist who will sell you out in a second to further his career. Also, he wasn’t nearly as influential in writing the Brady Bill as he claims. Hopefully Chris will pull off a victory in September.
