117-8th-avenue-041913A reader noticed an “in contract” sign on the “for sale” sign on the fence in front of the Adams mansion at 119 8th Avenue Sunday. Sure enough, the broker’s site boasts “from ‘just listed’ to ‘in contract’ in three days.” The C.P.H. Gilbert-designed Romanesque Revival pile is reputed to be dripping with original detail, according to commenters on this site who’ve been inside; it was a House of the Day last week and a Building of the Day in 2010. Meanwhile, down the street at 105 8th Ave, the beaux-arts mansion that was asking $25 million has not sold and, as previously reported, is now asking $18,000,000 or a monthly rent of $65,000. That makes the Adams mansion ask of $5,990,000 seem like a bargain. We’ll have to wait for the sale to hit public records before we know the final sale price.
