A Bad Debt Follows You Around: Renters May Soon See Credit Scores Affected...
“For years, renters who fell behind on their payments weren’t concerned about the impact that a late payment would have on their credit rating. But that may be changing, according to Wallet Pop, as Experian RentBureau, one of the big three credit bureaus, recently began collecting data about consumer rental payments and including that data…
i like your used of “[sic]”… are you an unpaid writer intern at the Times by any chance?

ugh. if i couldnt pay my rent id move, i would never “stiff” anyone. i would hope landlords are good about situations that sometimes happen to people like that. i think you misunderstood where i was going with this. and why does me saying people shouldnt be judged on a number such as credit score make no sense? i just dont think this kind of thing should be tattled to the big three credit beaureas, but i doubt many landlords will even bother. maybe the annoying big management companies that no one can ever seem to rent an apartment from unless they have rich parents willing to be guarantors in ohio or something.

Rob strikes again. So let’s see,not paying one’s rent constitutes “being unfairly discriminated against” because the person to whom you stiffed reports it. Also, Rob,”things outside one’s control” does not relieve one of one’s financial responsibility. And lastly, “people should not be judged basic [sic] on a stupid number” makes no sense whatsoever. It seems that the nonsensical rantings from certain quarters never cease.
Rob, you are a steady hand from what I know about you. If opportunities were offered on a preferential basis for those who pay their debts, you would be one of the first in line. Your sympathy for screwups is admirable (pardon me for not summoning some myself) but your sympathy for a system that rewards screwing up is misplaced.

Does playing by the rules count for anything anymore?
does being unfairly discriminated against because of possible things outside ones control count for anything anymore? people should not be judged basic on a stupid number.

I support stricter limitations on those who have bad credit. Does playing by the rules count for anything anymore?
Only the biggest companies will report – so you’re looking at Archstone (180 Montague) and Avalon (343 Gold) in Brooklyn. I don’t think the other biggies (Related, Cantor and Percorella, etc.) are here yet. And landlord tenant court records are already a part of all credit reports run by brokers and owners, so even if you win there no LL is going to rent to you.
You make it sound like it is easy to remove a bad tenant, especially here in NYC.
You could deal crack and eat little children and it would take several months before you can really start the process…
“I think there’s a cost for reporting something to a credit agency. I wonder how many will bother to do it, risking a lawsuit, rather than just getting that bad tenant out of there.”
