As those in the area have probably noticed, the abandoned lot at 38 Putnam Avenue in Clinton Hill has been getting cleaned up lately. Long a dumping ground and sometimes campground, the 52-foot-wide property’s changing looks are the result of a City order to the neglectful owner, according to a friendly resident of the building next door. (This explanation makes since given the lack of any DOB filings on record.) It’s too bad people don’t have enough respect for their communities to keep their properties presentable without legal threats. Then again, it doesn’t look like the owner lives nearby—at least judging by addresses on the slew of insider deed transfers in recent years. GMAP P*Shark

  1. This reminds us of another time we were taking a photo of a new development in Fort Greene and a person out front, who it turns out was the owner, asked us aggressively what we were doing, like he didn’t approve. Just taking a photo, we said. Why? Well, he says, there’s this guy Brownstoner who goes around taking pictures and writing nasty things…Happy ending: we fessed up and he ended up giving us a tour.

  2. Just checking in now, everybody posted at lunch seems like. I caught Brownstoner taking the photo above and stalked him back to his car calling out, “Hey you!” And when he didn’t respond I said, “Hey, your famous,” and his head whipped around. How often do you think he gets called out on the street? We chatted about the lot for a second, at which point I was dubbed a fountain of information. The owner has had this lot for a long time and he waited to long trying to get his price.

  3. Yeah, the sidewalk on both sides of Putnam between Irving and Downing is pretty shocking.

Putnam, saw you and your son this weekend down the street and shouted a hello but you didn’t hear me.
